⚠️ PSA – Updated Ontario Fire Code Safety Requirements, effective January 2026 🚨🔥

🚨 Attention Toronto & GTA Homeowners! As of January 1, 2026, Ontario is updating its Fire Code, and this affects your home safety.

If your home has a furnace, hot water heater, fireplace, attached garage, or fuel-burning appliance, you’ll now need Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms on every floor, not just near bedrooms. This includes basements and main floors without sleeping areas.

Why this matters: Carbon Monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas known as the silent killer. You can’t see it, smell it, or taste it, but a CO alarm can save your life.

NEW Carbon Monoxide Alarm Requirements – Effective Jan. 1, 2026:

  1. A CO alarm must be installed adjacent to all sleeping areas.

  2. A CO alarm must be installed on every storey of your home (even if there are no bedrooms).

  3. This applies to all houses, condos, townhomes & rental units that have fuel-burning equipment or an attached garage.
